I write a note on motor controller circuit with mosfet drivers just a while ago and this is the continued note on this topic.
In my earlier note on this, I wrote about why this topic intrigued me. I have come to know about the various mosfet driver IC exists such as the TC4428.
There are also other high-speed drivers used to switch MOSFETs in H-bridge motor controllers, power supplies, and other high-speed switching circuits. The following table lists these mosfet driver ICs with key features and typical applications.
IC | Type | Key Features | Common Use |
---|---|---|---|
TC4427 / TC4428 | Dual MOSFET driver | 1.5A output current, high speed | H-bridges, motor control |
IR2110 / IR2104 | High-side & low-side driver | Bootstrap circuit support, 600V | Full H-bridge, 3-phase motors |
IRS2003 / IRS2103 | Half-bridge drivers | Rugged, high-voltage, low power | Brushless DC motors |
MIC4422 / MIC4420 | Single MOSFET driver | 6A peak current, fast rise/fall time | Power MOSFET/IGBT driving |
LM5112 | Dual driver | 2A sink/source, synchronous buck, low propagation delay | DC-DC converters, gate driving |
UCC27511 | Single-channel | 4A source/8A sink, low propagation delay | Driving power MOSFETs & IGBTs |
These mosfet drivers not only can be used for robotics and cars but also in SMPS power supply circuits. They can be used for buck converters, boost converter and different types of voltage regulator circuits.
I think learning both power supply circuits and learning the motor controllers are essential to master the design of robots, drones and RC cars.
I want now to share a circuit diagram of motor controller designed with TC4427 mosfet driver circuit. This motor controller board is based on TC4427 mosfet driver IC and Arduino.
Because I could not take the circuit image on large scale in detail, I am posting multiple part of the same circuit.
