I have been trying to launch a WISP(Wireless Internet Service Provider). I started to provide to a mountainous rural village. I had a point to point link(PtP) from my office to the village using two Ubiquiti PowerBeam 5AC radio antenna. I had to repair one of them I think but then they worked well until last month the one installed in the village got damaged beyond repair. I tried to repair the powerbeam, I mean I gave it to repair guy for repairing. He told me this powerbeam cannot be repaired. According to the man who looks after the Powerbeam and switches in the village, the Powerbeam started to show the blinking in the adaptor, that is the power beam started to fail after the transformer in the village blew up.
Yesterday, I tried to replace a PowerBeam radio antenna installed in the village with Ubiquiti Lite Beam radio antenna. Below is the Lite Beam that I used which is actually was installed at my home(I took it out and used for link to village).
Maybe I should have taken the photo of the lite beam installed in the village. I forgot to take picture there yesterday. I had configured the SSID, password prior set and connected to the other powerbeam in my office before to going to the village. In the village, I installed the lite beam but could not find the powerbeam installed on the building tower in my office. I think the distance is 7.5km. There is line of sight but a part of the mountain downstream hinders a bit of line of sight. I was getting 250Mbps throughput when I used the two Power Beam before. It was a bit late and already dark when we installed the antenna on the top of the shop owner house. So it could be because I could not make the antenna align correctly to the direction of the office building. The shop owner where the antenna are installed once was trying to align to get ssid signal of the power beam. And while he was working, I could once see the SSID transmitted by the power beam in my office. Having see the SSID during scanning for AP, and clicking on the lock to the SSID, I thought they got connected. Sadly it did not as that was gone when I refreshed the page. The user interface of Ubiquiti radio is good. Out of many feature, it shows the AP and the Station radios whether it is powerbeam, litebeam, lite AP etc, side by side with the max throughput.
Below is picture of my office building and the tower on top of the building where I have installed the power beam antenna.
Since it was already dark and late, about 7:30 PM, I decided to give up installation for now and come tomorrow(today) for installation. During scanning I could see SSID of many other including Ubiquiti radios more far than my office location. So I think or this means it should be see the SSID of my powerbeam in the office. I think the alignment is not proper or as I came to realize in the morning today is that I have set IP address to the one of the wireless LAN connected to the SSID of one of home wireless router. I was unable to connect to the internet in the morning and after checking the issue I came to know about this. But this should be the reason for failing to scan and find the office power beam SSID.
So today my plan was to go there but there is another issue that I have to take first so I cannot go to the village. I use bike and the road is not good during this rainy season. Yesterday I had to walk 10-mins up(and down late in the evening) to the location of the house where I have installed the antenna and switches. However, today I can go to the office and scan and check whether they two got connected by now because I have already set the SSID and password needed for connection and also connected them before I went to the village yesterday.
That's it. I am stopping writing now.
